1. What are the exact packing dimensions (CBM) and gross weight?
Your freight forwarder needs the exact Cubic Meters (CBM) and weight to quote shipping costs accurately. If the factory estimates poorly, you may end up paying for unused container space or facing overweight surcharges.
2. Are the export cartons strong enough?
Ask for the ply-rating of the corrugated cartons. For heavy items or long sea voyages, demand 5-ply or 7-ply export cartons. Request a standard drop test to ensure the internal packaging protects the product effectively.
3. What Incoterms are we using?
Confirm responsibilities. If it's EXW (Ex Works), you pay for transport from the factory door. If it's FOB (Free on Board), the supplier pays to get it onto the ship at the local port (e.g., Guangzhou, Shenzhen). Misunderstanding this leads to surprise bills.
4. Have all pallets been fumigated?
If your goods are packed on wooden pallets, most international customs authorities require proof of fumigation (ISPM 15 stamp) to prevent pest transfer. Without this, your shipment could be denied entry or destroyed at your expense.
5. When is the earliest loading date?
